In the middle of the last century, Neville Goddard used ancient Biblical stories to point out how we could improve our lives through a more relaxed, imaginative state of mind. Despite being a popular self-improvement speaker at the peak of his long career, Neville's work has largely been forgotten since his death in 1972. Today, few people interested in spiritual self-development have heard of Neville - although his advice usually seems vastly superior to the many similar self-help teachers that came after him. The hope of the Neville Explains the Bible series - of which this book is a part - is to introduce you to Neville's exceptional ideas, and explore their practical application.
You're probably going to find a lot of relevance in what Neville is saying. Nothing is intended to sound too esoteric. Anybody can use this information effectively. That's because, in Neville's opinion, the Bible wasn't only the greatest spiritual book ever written - it was also the most practical.
Neville would always dismiss any historical discussions surrounding the Old and New Testament as being irrelevant to the larger pragmatic points the Bible makes. He was a master at decoding the Bible so we could actually utilize it in our normal, day-to-day life. Even if you disagree with Neville's unconventional opinions concerning some of these Biblical teachings, you'll almost certainly gain something from the advice he shares.

Neville's ideas are so unusual and effective that I think it's beneficial to hear about them over and over again, from a few different angles, so you can fully grasp their meaning and then happily apply his recommendations in whatever way you would like. So take whatever you find useful in this book, and discard the rest. Don't believe any of what it's telling you just at face value - test it for yourself. That's where the true value of this information lies: in experiencing and finding out what actually works for you, what doesn't, and what can make your life better and easier.
We'll begin with Neville giving brief instructions for how to imagine and receive specific things you want through a deepened sense of relaxation. Then we'll move on to explore the more all-encompassing benefits of this deepened sense of relaxation. We'll go into detail about why you can happily surrender to feelings of relaxation, with no specifics as to what you exactly want, and receive good things in your life with surprising ease. This practice - having zero expectations of what will come from your relaxation except for relaxation itself - will eventually yield significant, tangible results just as surely as if you had imagined receiving specific things. Regardless of how you choose to do it, if you practice feeling relaxed consistently, signs will follow.

A very sensible work

While admittedly I've historically had no particular affinity for the Bible, the manner in which this book interprets certain aspects of it was very interesting to me. What if the stories within it aren’t necessarily supposed to be taken literally? What if, instead, there are deeper life lessons and metaphysical instructions embedded within the work? Teachings that are intended to inspire people to understand that as "children of God" they have the gift within their own consciousness to manifest the type of life they truly want to experience.
With the self-help industry typically focused on the use of various tools to aid one's manifestation efforts, according to this book all that "effort" really isn’t necessary. Instead, the greatest benefits will come from relaxing into the process as opposed to manually trying to "make something happen." Conceptually, this makes great sense to me based my own life experience, as essentially every time I've tried to make something happen nothing did; on the contrary, in several instances when I just relaxed and trusted that things would work out, inevitably they did. For this reason this work resonated with me and as such I feel that it has solid merit as a spiritual growth resource.
