I've always loved this series. This book is especially good! I mean, sure, not a fast - paced action - adventure book, but seriously a good read. I love how Hayley overcomes her fears, and does what she needs to do. This is a perfect realistic fiction book for girls 9 - 13. Nice job, Lisa Papademetriou. ( p.s. the confessions are a nice touch.)

Ok but...

I love this book. But, in my opinion I wanted her to be with Marco and not kyle. I am not saying that becuz he is blind. I just think her and Marco have more history together and I know Marco like her I just wish that she would like him back. Kyle is nice but I don't think he belongs with her. But I love this series and these books.

Pablo Garcia Borboroglu is a researcher at the National Research Council of Argentina, president of the Global Penguin Society, and affiliate professor at the University of Washington. P. Save the Penguins

"Penguins: Natural History and Conservation" is the most up to date and detailed book available on the subject of penguins. However, it reads more like a scientific journal than a coffee table book. It is better geared towards penguin professionals and graduate students rather than the lay person or penguin enthusiast.

If you are looking for a coffee table book, you would probably be better off with "Penguin-pedia" by David Soloman or "Penguins of the World" by Wayne Lynch. They have more pictures and they are geared more to the person who wants to know more of the general information on penguins.

"Penguins: Natural History and Conservation" is full of the most recent statistics and it has an emphasis on conservation. The penguins are in trouble and they need our help.

If you care about the penguins, buy this book and help in conserving the penguin's environment. The penguin's world is our world. If we save the penguins, we will save ourselves.

"And Who Says I'm Not?"

I recommend this book be obtained as the publisher (The University of Washington Press)printed it (i.e. not on electronic format). Because it is a tactile adventure to hold its smooth pages and see the colorful plates of penguins--not the same with only words on a screen. This can be a textbook or a scientific treatise with its extensive footnotes and documentation but don't let that put you off from having this as a coffee-table book again the pictures are wonderful.

Borboroglu and Boersma do an excellent job of indicating which species of Penguins are under population pressure, why and which areas are most impacted. As scientists, they do not have a single conclusion or recommendation but carefully present where warming is a threat and where pollution or other hazards endanger Penguin colonies.

The title of this review is the punch line to the joke of one penguin saying to the other penguin "You look like you are wearing a Tux."

We all love penguins in the abstract, this book brings them up close with and without feathers. Not a book to read cover-to-cover but one that I suspect you will return to over the years to learn more about these creatures.

Boring and unrealistic

Not every book in this collection is a waste of time, but we're really talking about a few exceptions, here. Why bother to have black heroines if the only thing black about them is their "mahogany" skin? They're all slim, with green eyes or long hair. Few of them even acknowledge that they're black. Except for the insulting "reverse racism" story, they all seem to exist in an alternate universe where race has 0 societal meaning, for either the black or white people.

But that lack of realism isn't the biggest problem with these books. They're, for the most part, really boring. Every time the writer could make a choice that heightens tension or conflict, she goes in the opposite direction, basically getting rid of anything that would keep the reader engaged. With cookie cutter characters and recycled plots this is not a good instinct.

The editing is competent (kudos!). Sex is very vanilla. Dialogue is decent. Prose style is a bit clunky, but good. Too much inner monologue and exposition including dialogue exposition.

Even if you have Unlimited I would not recommend this collection.

Enjoyed!

This is a great set of books for the price. I enjoyed reading all these books for different reasons and it was good to have so much variety in a set. I have enjoyed these authors separately and together in a set is a plus. I really liked the baby theme, and I had a good time during the holidays reading this set.

A great collection of short stories. There is a story for everyone read this over a couple of days when I was ill which was excellent cause I could read a story stop and pick up another story wheni felt up to it.each story has a HEA and is complete no cliff bangers.

This startling book is based on a series of conversations between the Cuban leader and a Brazilian priest. The talk is informal and far-ranging, and Betto's questions are often provocative ("Does Cuba export revolution?"). Castro expounds on such matters as his Jesuit education, the effect of the revolution on the Church, the discrimination against Christians in Cuba and the teachings of Christ. Castro is inspired at one point to claim that there are "ten thousand more coincidences between Christianity and communism than between Christianity and capitalism," and concludes that Christians and Marxists can work together. As theologian Cox remarks in the introduction, Castro seems to savor the subject of religion far more than might be expected from a self-described atheist. Cox also suggests the possibility that the book may be "a clever gambit by a wily and resourceful politician who knows that he needs to have Christians on his side." In any case, it is a dazzling performance.

This work contains a series of fascinating interviews between a Dominican priest and Fidel Castro focused essentially on Castro's attitudes towards religion and Christianity. As the introduction suggests, the Spanish version of this book caused a sensation in Latin America because an avowed socialist leader has declared that a revolutionary can be a Christian at a time when the issue has been raised explicitly in Nicaragua. The interviews include many insights about Castro's upbringing and philosophy, but Betto fails to press Castro on his regime's human rights abuses in relation to his declarations on religion. Wendell Berry's latest is excellent and provocative in what I have read so far

The books are very interesting. Castro's recollections are interestingly selective and of course entirely favorable to him.
I have not finished Tex Sample's critique of Niebuhr's concepts of Human nature, power and society, so cannot say much except that I expect the critique to be thorough since I am somewhat familiar with Tex Sample's work.
Wendell Berry's latest is excellent and provocative in what I have read so far. But then, that's the way I have found all of Berry's writings. He is provocatively insightful and thought provoking, providing questions and perspectives which we all need to consider very seriously.

Hear Castro talk..and talk..and talk

The translation of a famous discussion between Fidel Castro and one of the major spokesmen of Liberation Theology. The priest seems to worship Fidel more than G-d and offers very little discussion, simply pandering to Castro, agreeing with his every word, and giving him a platform to talk about a wide range of topics. Reads more like 'Fidel's Philosophy'. Fidel isn't exactly the great orator he is supposed to be, judging from reading his speeches, but he does make some nice points that apply to education and religion worldwide. Somewhat recommended. Better than your average fare from Cuba.

A great read, real autobiography, the priest outwitted

As a Leninist, Fidel Castro doesn't believe religion helps, but he also knows that talking with people about religion is a waste of time. What Fidel does here as the bumbling priest wants to explore the glorious of "liberation theology" is Fidel uses it to talk about everything else. Fidel talks a lot about his own experience going to Catholic Schools in Cuba, about education, even about how good playing high school basketball was for his life. Besides being one of the few places where Fidel talks about his own biography, there is a certain joy to this book as Fidel outwits the priest and talks about life, philosophy, education, sports, colonialism, and much more.
