About the Author

Sébastien Chartrand has worked primarily in international criminal law since becoming a member of the Quebec Bar. He has been the legal defense assistant in cases before the International Criminal Tribunals for Rwanda and Ex-Yugoslavia. He also did a legal internship for the Rwandan Tribunal in 2009. John Philpot has more than 25 years of experience as a criminal defense lawyer, including 20 years in international criminal justice. He has represented clients before the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, including the Appeal Court in the Hague, and the International Criminal Court. He has been the chief organizer of three international criminal law conferences. They both live in Montreal.

ASP 4.5 Genie teaching in a bottle, take a sip of real knowledge

The world of ASP website design has been a confusing and poorly supported with a hodge-podge of training books until now. This book is very well written and within a few hours of reading it I was able to incorporate solid understanding of ASP development into my thinking. The author knows how to teach this material in a manner that can make you an instant expert in a fraction of the time that you might expect.

I'm throwing away my previous books on ASP design because this book is so much better at teaching me the subject. I hope the author wrote other training methods that match my areas of interest.

NOTE: this is a very tall book that may not fit easily into your bookshelves. It should be placed on top of your book collection as a tribute to the excellent writing contained within.

Probably the best book I've bought on the subject . . .

I purchased this book because I wanted to learn how to create ASP.NET (web) applications. I've been doing Windows forms in .NET for about 10 years now but using a language that can be considered a dialect of C# (if interested, ASNA Visual RPG for .NET). While I had a fairly good handle on object oriented programming, there were constructs that I never really understood. Simon's book and teaching method have not only given be a good start on ASP.NET programming but also filled in the blanks in my knowledge of C#. I now have a much better understanding (as a grizzly old IBM programmer) of what constructors do and how to best employ custom classes. What you will see on the back cover of this book ("Why this book is different") is totally accurate. I only wish other books on IT subjects were written in the same style as Simon Smart has used. I f you want to learn C# and ASP.NET, this is an excellent (and possibly the only way) to start.

A very important part of any plan to master ASP.NET!

After Adobe decided to drop database support for Dreamweaver, I went looking for a replacement tool set to build interactive, database driven web sites. I decided it was time to jump into ASP.NET as my new tool and this book has been a huge help with the rather steep learning curve. The book includes a comprehensive review of ASP.NET 4.5 and Visual Studio 2012. I used Visual Studio 2013 Express for the Web which is a free download from Microsoft. All of the examples worked just as expected except for the chapter on site security. Microsoft dropped a very nice tool for managing site security, between VS 2012 and VS 2013 so I wasn't able to complete those examples in the book. There were a few minor differences between what the book told me to use and what I found in VS 2013 but those differences were minor and easy to overcome. I am presently working through the follow-on version of this book which is a set of "expert" skills. So far, that book appears every bit as useful as this one. This wasn't the first book on C# and Visual Studio that I've completed, but it is the first that I was able to work through all the way to the end. I highly recommend this book if you wish to learn about ASP.NET and Visual Studio... I consider it a vital stop on my way to mastering ASP.NET.

This is the type of book all couples should read.

This is THE BOOK you need if you want to learn to resolve conflicts in your marriage. It is meant to be used with the book He Wins, She Wins. I think that most of the problems we face in marriages are due to our poor conflict resolving skills. No one teaches us how to resolve conflicts before we are married, that is probably why a big percentage of marriages fail, but this book makes it easier to learn that process. You are able to take on samples of problems that do not necessarily apply to your own marriage, but doing it the workbook teaches you the process of how to go about it so that you are able to resolve any type of conflict you and your spouse might be encountering.

Terrorism: The Bottom Line

This edition is an excellent review of Terrorim. It provides the history on how terrorism was used in the past and an excellent anology of the current events. I am using the book for undergrad students at the university and highly recommend it.
