Sikov focuses on four directors-Howard Hawks (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes), Billy Wilder (Some Like It Hot), Alfred Hitchcock (The Trouble With Harry) and Frank Tashlin (Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?)-whose comedies undercut drab normality, attack moral hypocrisy, satirize the powerful, and expose sexual repression and frustration. Sikov (Screwball: Hollywood's Madcap Romantic Comedies) also examines filmic references to homosexuality in the context of the period's antigay obsessions, exploring, for example, the "homophilic" bond between screen buddies Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin. He is interested in how these films cleverly present, question, and satirize the intricate web of societal values and repressions that characterized America in the Fifties. In particular, Sikov analyzes-with vehement intensity-such issues as the double-edged representations of women's roles, homosexual innuendo, intimate relationships, and family structure. He studies dialog, roles, situations, contrasts, and film technique, occasionally debating positions taken by other scholars. A unique study for large film collections.

a really good read. I recommend it

This is a good read. What I like most is that it provides you information you can only get after you have gone through that experience, in which case it saves you
2 or more years of going down a part before you realize its not for you. The section on writing personal statements is a treasure trove, with templates on what a good
ps looks like. I like also the details on how to go about getting observerships and extenships and finding img friendly programs.
The author says that the greatest advantage you have is scoring high in the usmle, but he didn't say anything about how to score high, but he also tslkd about what you can do if you have low scores and multiple attempts. Another thing i found interesting are the alternatives to medicine as an img. Generally its a good book every doctor needs to look at to understand the challenges they could face and avoid going down the part of not realizing ones dream.

Managed Services In Less Than a Year!

We entered into the Managed Services arena pretty late, about four years ago now. I wish I had read this in 2010 rather than last year. Had I written this book myself here in New Mexico, it might have been named Managed Services in a Decade. But Karl's book helped me turn that into managed services in a year. All in all, probably the most focused and useful book of half a dozen I've read on the topic. Highly recommended

The author truly knows the subject inside and out! Karl writes in an easy to understand style. I believe that anyone that wants to become a Managed Services provider MUST own this book. At my company, Shield Computer Care, we have been applying his 'step by step' approach and it really REALLY works. We prepared for the transition from 'break/fix' for a couple of months. In just the last two weeks we have gone from ZERO DOLLARS in recurring monthly revenue to over $25,000 annually...and we have only just begun. Good book, for what it is. Essentially it's a bunch of longform blog posts stitched into a book. It's good to get an idea of how to run an MSP at a high level.

My Pharm Bible

I struggled to find a resource to help me wade through and memorize drugs, but found it with this book. Short and to the point, it's got most of what you need for Step 1, and I can't say enough good things about the format. Perfect for absorbing rote information and helping you sort out answer choices on the exam.

I got a reasonable grip on pharm concept from courses and FA, but still found myself stumbling on pharm stuff in the qBanks (don't get me started on the dense uselessness of the Lange deck). I needed to find a resource that would let me quickly and repeatedly hammer home drug information, and this book had exactly what I was looking for. I became a believer in the Deja Review series after I found this book and bought most of the series (most are awesome, a few are bad).

The key here is to not over-utilize this book, and to recognize it for what it is. It is a way to help you rote memorize drugs, mechanisms, side effects, etc. But it is not a text designed to help you understand pharmacology or drugs.

So, if you find yourself struggling with concepts, this book is probably not for you. If you find yourself struggling with the drugs themselves, you've just found what you're looking for.

I love the question/ answers format. I use it regularly for reviewing the subject. It is also helpful for exam study and review.I purchase the Kindle version of it and it is much more easier to navigate. Again it is not textbook for pharmacology this will not help if you do not your material before-hand
