Colonel Giskes reveals the whole story.

As an amateur World War II historian, I am always searching for the books that tells it like it was and I am so impressed with this book that I read it twice. Colonel Giskes was truly a professional soldier and expert counter-espionage agent. His book will set the record straight for all time regardless of whose version you read regarding SOE-MID covert operations in Northern France and Holland during the war from March 1942 thru October 1943. He was a class officer who performed his task with true professionialism. He did every thing in his power to secure the lives of the Dutch agents that fell into his trap. However the SIPO (State Police) had the final word and the agents were executed. If you call yourself a historian of World War II, you must read this book from cover to cover. Thank You

Read this, and then read London's account

Too bad this isn't in Kindle format. I'm glad it came out.

For balance, you need to read the chronicle of the other side. Its title is: From Silk To Cyanide: A Coder's War, by Leo Marks (head of codes in SEO). A very readable account of London coders, written by the coder who first suspected Giskes, but couldn't get his group to acknowledge it had lost control of so much territory. He knew it was Giskes, but they didn't want him to prove it. Two competing secret services, you see, neither wanting to lose face or funding.

Giskes had help from good old British bureacracy at its finest (or otherwise).

An amazing story

I claim no expertise in this historical episode, but it is an amazing read and ranks amongst the more compelling stories of the use of intelligence in war. Giskes really did seem to be a different sort personally as well, supported by one of the epilog documents from a dutch spy and from the story of his boss, Admiral Canaris.

Lots of Info Packed Into an Affordable Book

I purchased this guide recently as I am an avid fan of creating multiple income streams from home. This ranges from writing short stories to developing websites to, well, just about anything I can get my hands on. ClickBank is a marketplace i had heard of in the past, but I never took the time to investigate it thoroughly. The main reason being because most guides are not user-friendly and tend to explain things without keeping new users in mind. By looking at the contents of this course, however, it seemed to be pretty much to the point and also friendly -- so I gave it a shot. Especially if it's being sold so cheap, what do you have to lose?

Once i started reading it, i realized this was what i've been looking for, and i'm glad i didn't grab one of many other guides which are NOT very user-friendly. This one holds your hand and walks you through ClickBank's basics without making you feel overwhelmed. It explains the possibility of starting with something small and gradually escalating it to something much, much bigger and profitable.

Very Affordable For All !

Carpenter provides some excellent simple dinner recipes. Examples are Quinoa w/Kale, Mushrooms and Sweet Potatoes and many others. A theme of the book is to have less meat like in "meatless Mondays". Increasingly, more dieters are going veggie as a source of proteins and antioxidants.

The meal preparation is very detailed with the time listed, ingredients and food content in grams. For instance, the number of grams of protein, sugar, fiber, fat and carbs are all listed prominently. Some preparations like the Quinoa w/Kale are non-gluten. These preparations are important for people who are sensitive to gluten or have gastrointestinal issues aggravated by eating gluten-based foods. Foods like quinoa may help with keeping the C-reactive protein (marker for inflammation) within the reference range.

There are important substitutes for sugar; such as, anise, cinnamon and stevia. Overall, Carpenter's book will be very helpful for health conscious dieters who enjoy eating fine food without the penalty of too many additives or non-organic content.

Well if you're anything like me and have looked for healthy recipes, then you have spent ALOT of time on Google only to find the SAME OL' recipes - just with different names, slightly different ingredients, and not healthy AT ALL.

Well, here's the thing. I purchased this book on November 20th. At the time that I'm leaving this review it is Nov 30th - Ten days later. It's days later and I have ALREADY used this book every single day (INCLUDING THANKSGIVING!!!) I started out on the first day, figuring just to "try" something out. It's usually within the first day or two that I can tell if I got a "good" cookbook, or just a "google" cookbook. Easy to say, I got "REAL" cookbook. This is without a doubt, indeed a REAL cookbook in every essence of the word.

My first choice was "Feta with bean mash and beat root salsa dish. I figured I'd try something simple, yet unique - so that I can tell the difference in what I'm doing. Whether it's good or not, or if it's just me and my poor cooking. My cooking is poor, anyway - but following the directions here proved to be quite delicious. Each dish/meal is presented in an easy to follow matter. First, the author gives you a time frame of how long the dish would be to take. It said that it would take more 10 minutes to prepared and 7 minutes to cook. It took me 15 min to prepare, but that's because I read everything 3 or 4 times before I do anything.

Next it lists the incredients - along with any added detail or characteristics needed. Again, pretty darn easy to follow.

Next is the preparation section. Usually these instructions are condensed into 7-10 steps. Amazing. Well written, logically formulated and easy to emulate. My first "experiment" came out GREAT. Then there's a "nutritional check" at the end of each meal, with a calorie count, fat, cholestoral, protein and carb count.

Some of my other favorites (or favourites - fine for the U.K., too ;-) include the Spiced Salmon w/ Mustard Sauce, Fish Tacos with Sesame-Ginger Slaw, and Grilled Pork steaks in Horseradish crust. Fed some of these two my VERY PICKY little nephews and they were DELIGHTED.

Kudos to author Howard Carpenter on a book of EXCELLENT healthy dinner recipes!

new exciting recipes in an interesting book format

I really enjoyed this book that was organized in a rather unique way. You have a weekly plan and the chapters are divided up by days of the week. Each day there is a goal for the type of meal you should have. I really liked meatless Mondays, I grew up vegetarian and was happy to see the week starting out veggie. I didn't like chapter 3 "Wednesdays special" mostly because the majority of all the recipes were Pork. I don't eat any kind of pork so I found that chapter rather useless for me. That's just me though, other people might wish every day of the week was Wednesdays special. I like how each recipe has a prep time at the top of the page which is important to me because if I only have 30 minutes to prep a meal I want to know if this is going to take 30 min or 50 min ahead of time. The ingredients are also listed just under the time to prepare which is helpful knowing if you even have everything to decide if you are going to make it, go get what you need or find a recipe for things you have. I also enjoyed the variety of different dishes, some of which I have never heard of before. I'm all for trying new things and coming home to prepare something new is always exciting.

A thanksgiving prayer of a daughter to the almighty for bringing her father back home.

Let the bygones be bygones! – But I ask, is it really practical for making bygones the bygones? Well, personally speaking, my answer is sometimes but not always. For rest of the times, it is really painful and beyond acceptance. Many people turn to writing in order to share their thought and if not at-least to shred the agony or least to, went of the pangs of pain, one is going through. It is similar to waging a war with one’s self! Biographies and auto-biographies are the best of such examples.

Stolen Years by Pavit Kaur is an enriching addition to the genre. She is the loving and brave daughter of Sr. Simranjit Singh Mann, one of the accused in the then, Prime Minister – Indira Gandhi’s assassination. This is a memoir, an account by a forlorn daughter, who witnessed the separation of her father on wrong grounds and how they just had fallen bait to a biased government. Surprisingly, she has not said a word against the government or the officials or the prevailing systems. I bow to her for such a daring attempt.

I will not summarize on all what she had shared rather, I would prefer to highlight what all you will get to learn, after completing the read. First, it was really sad to learn how Sr. Simranjit Singh Mann was traced down and imprisoned, barbarically. Secondly, the agony of the family was the high point in her version. Thirdly, you will notice the effect on the marital relationship i.e. how the things turn topsy-turvy for the spouse, left behind. Fourthly, the most heart-breaking was the emotional out-burst of kids. Lastly, as it said and meant since ages – Truth wins finally. It was actually inspiring to learn how he faced hardships behind the bars but remained hopeful of truth, unveiling and it did.

Stolen years is an heart rendering and realising the emotional loss along with the others to the family .each member of the family had his share of trauma and each one pretending to be stronger than another.at many parts of the book I had a lump in my throat.it is the ultimate reciprocal gesture to the parents in their bringing up and un conditional love to their children by a daughter. I wish one day my daughter reciprocates by writing my days in the BHARATGARH FORT and converting it to boutique resort as beautifully mentioned by paving kaur.

About the Author
About the Author Marietta S. Millet is an associate professor of Architecture at the University of Washington in Seattle. She has lectured widely, has been a visiting professor at several schools, and has also held the Frederick Charles Baker Distinguished Chair in Lighting in the Department of Architecture at the University of Oregon. She is a partner in Loveland/Millet Lighting Consultants. Ms. Millet holds a Masters of Architecture degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has received numerous awards for her work.

Thought-Provoking and Inspiring

This is a dense and throughtful book that deftly combines theory and practice.

This is in not "architecture porn." The text is the engine here and the illustrations, well...they illustrate the ideas being put forward. The ideas grappled with center around the timeless principles of how light affects architecture -- specifically how light affects experience, how light reveals form, how light shapes space, and even "light revealing meaning." (I raised my eyebrow at that last one, but after considering the book's examples of theatrical light, festive light, contemplative light, and divine light, I got on board!)

Most welcome are four focused sections of the book that consider, for 7 to 12 pages, the interaction between light and architecture of a single building. My favorite of these is Aalto's Mount Angel Abbey Library.

Book nitty-gritty: glossy pictorial boards with a sewn binding; 181 pp. Released without dustjacket. Something like 350 illustrations, most of them in color: mostly color photos with floorplans, elevations, and some sketches. Indexed. Bibliographic and (some) narrative End Notes.

does everything right

This book is great. Nearly everything about it is clear, concise, informative, and inspiring.

The format is worth mentioning because the author does everything right. Each chapter is dedicated to a single principle of lighting design, and is immediately followed by a case study that beautifully illustrates that same principle. Also, whenever the text mentions a particular building or room - there is always a lovely and appropriate photograph of that very same room or building RIGHT ON THE VERY SAME PAGE. This is a rare example of a well-concieved and thoughtfully executed book on architecture.

A very EN"LIGHT"ENING book!

Any spatial experience is intimately connected with the experience of light. The author has very articulately described this phenomena in architecture, using four major themes - where light helps with a physiological EXPERIENCE, gives a building FORM, defines and enhances SPACE, and thus gives it MEANING.

This is an excellent book, well written and has a good association with all aspects of lighting, studied and explained with the help of a wide range of buildings and architecture. It makes a very strong (and convincing) argument, for all designers to pay attention to the importance of light while planning and designing their spaces or buildings.
