Although the mathematical development uses concepts from modern algebra, the book is self-contained in the sense that a one-term undergraduate course introducing students to rings and fields is the only prerequisite assumed. `The Computer Algebra community has been waiting for years for this book to appear. ...the book is a masterpiece and can be recommended to everyone interested in the algorithms for computer algebra, either as a reference for further research or just to give the casual user an idea why things work as good (or as bad) as they do in computer algebra packages. ...the recommendation would be clear: Buy this book! As it stands now my only advice is to stay away from this book, because you might be tempted to buy it anyway (at least I was).'

Clear and understandable, but some bugs

I found this book very useful as a reference while writing a small computer algebra system. It's a definate must-have for all the hordes of people out there who are rewriting subsets of Maple, Mathematica, etc. The explanation of the theory is relatively clear and helpful so that a not-so-theory-inclined person (such as myself) can understand the material. The cost of such clarity is a loss of some conciseness so someone who lives and breathes abstract algebra may desire a more esoteric book (like Winkler's). The biggest flaw of the book are the poorly debugged algorithms. Almost every algorithm presented in the book has some sort of minor flaw with serious reprecussions on correctness. This results in much frustration if you're actually trying to implement the algorithms.

an excellent treatment

We used this book in an advanced undergraduate/early graduate class in computer algebra. The book provides a concise and rigorous, but very readable introduction to computational algebra theory, with algorithms written in pseudo code.
Assuming proficiency in programming, as further pre-requisite I would suggest an undergraduate course in abstract algebra (or equivalent mathematical maturity) for maximum benefit.
An excellent collection of algorithms, proofs, and advanced introductory material, written in a (comparatively) breezy style.

Thank you Anna! It was a pleasure to read your writing and I am so glad you've shared your story.
I believe what comes through in this book, although so much of it is incredible! The future sounds too good to be true, and in some ways like I've heard it before (maybe it's just familiar because it's true.) Anna does a wonderful job of addressing the craziness of it all. When speaking of this book to friends, I felt full body resonance, even when I knew what I was saying sounded over the top, and their faces showed disbelief or skepticism.
Parts of this book made me feel very excited, but simultaneously brought up my fears and blockages, which is good. I have been dreaming of possibilities for years, very similar to those Anna describes, and at times I have gotten pretty dead set on needing to heal the world. It feels strange (resistance) yet reassuring to have these parts of me spoken to directly, as this book does. It's so good to know I'm not alone/fantasizing/crazy.
This is definitely a helpful read for all of us on the path, seeking whatever is true. I will absolutely read this book again, more slowly next time, allowing room to process, integrate, and let it all wash over me. It felt good to read this and I look forward to reading it again.

I started reading the book a few days back and it is a fun read. I know that the author has given me free reigns on allowing Anna and Michael to work through me identifying themselves in their feminine and masculine energy forms. It is a fun ride, reading this book. I have always identified with divine as IT, the formless one, now I get to work with IT as whole yet being aware of their subtleties as they flow through me. This book is a must for you, if you are ready to embrace the divinity that you are.

Crazy sci-fi

An interesting addition to the science-fiction genre, Enormity tells us of something made of nightmares. What would happen to our world when through some kind of quantum disaster, a completely normal person would blow up to the size of a mountain?

The answer to that is quite simple. Massive destruction of apocalyptic proportions. Every footstep will cause a tsunami. A sigh turns into a whirlwind. And not to mention satisfying a giant's hunger...

What I liked about Enormity are the epic proportions of the story. Every single detail is considered, and consequently clarified. By this I mean that ever aspect of the giants life is explored. From his dander to his sweat, his bacteria, to the effects of his movements and voice.

What I didn't like that much was that at times there was an information overload. Especially when talking about political situations or the different divisions in the army, it just went past me. More often than not I had no idea what they were on about, so I just started skipping these parts. Luckily it doesn't matter that much for the story, but I would like to have a little more explanation at times.

At times the story was pretty gross (especially when it involved giant bodily fluids) but it was an interesting and engaging read. The characters all had their distinct personalities. They might not all be that likeable, but they are understandable. If the premise interests you, be sure to check Enormity out!

I have a penchant for fiction/fantasy novels with identifiable characters who are either given exceptional gifts or placed into unusual situations. I thoroughly enjoyed Enormity and will anxiously await future novels written by Greatshell.
